Summer Reading So Far

I have been binge reading Sarah Dessen. She writes books such as That Summer, Just Lesten (her newest), This Lullaby and The Truth About Forever. She's very tuned-in to teenagers and she captures the unique qualities and challenges of families and friends. I've read three of her books in the last week and I do like her approach and her characters are multidimensional and have their share of secrets. Mostly things they learn about themselves.

Now a really sweetie of a read was The Outcasts of 19 Schyler Place. Totally enjoyed that book. It all comes together like a puzzle with an amazing picture. Well worth it. I'm a big fan of E.L. Konigsberg anyway. I'm sorry it took me so long to get to it. I also finished Last Dance on Holladay Street by Eliza Carbone. Oh! Unreal. That was quite a story. Set in Denver in 1878 and learning about how few options woman had at that time was illuminating. Eva, the main character is complex and Carbone reveals just a bit at a time to you are learning right along with Eva. Excellent.

This week, The Star of Kazan. I've only read two chapters so far but I LOVE where it is set... VIENNA! I went there for Christmas and I must say reading this book makes me want to go back. Good, good stuff.

Spring in the Library

Is anyone out there? The LMC has been busy beyond most "normal" comprehension of busy. The book fair wrapped up on Friday and I think it went really well. We sold a lot of everything. I'm reading Poison now. What a trip. I love that book, but it is taking me awhile. I think I'm too busy to savour it properly.

How's Monday?

Recent Reading

Do you read more than one book at a time? I tend to do that even though I don't like to. It just gets nutty. I finished up Walter Dean Myers new book, The Autobiography of My Dead Brother which was quite unusual. But how about Chris Lynch's Inexcusable? OMG! That book was unreal. I was amazed at how it all came together. Then I also finished reading A Northern Light a second time. I love that book. What else? Oh, Money Hungry by Sharon Flake. I really enjoy her style. And, and, and, Streetwise, a graphic autobiographical collection. Anyone else read that? I'm about half way through it and I think it is facinating. I'm reading Poison by Christopher Wooding. I like it but I'm only about 30 pages in.

What Are You Reading?

What are you reading? Anyone read Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen? I am just finishing it up. What a nice read. Good characters and I love Aunt Mira. Dessen's books are very popular in our library. We had a copy of Keeping the Moon that was lost. I replaced it and started reading it. I have two NEW books, Inexcusable by Chris Lynch and a new book by Walter Dean Myers.

I can't wait for Spring Break. I just want to lounge and read. Well, ride my bike also.

I just finished

I just finished the best book entitled _Are We There Yet?_ by David Levithan. Talk about five stars, this book is worth 10! Such a great literary experience because David Levithan is a brilliant writer. He can turn a phrase and suddenly you feel like you've read something extraordinary!

This treasure is unusual too: two brothers sort of stuck together by their parents. Elijah is seven years younger than Danny and they got along okay when Elijah was little, but now they don't seem to click and being together is uncomfortable.

You should definitely read this book if you are a boy and you have a brother, but girls will enjoy it too especially if you enjoy top notch writing.

Anyone else read it?
